Some help activating my phone.

Bought a super clean 04 C240 4Matic and I now that I have the few little bugs worked out of it I would like to use the onboard phone. The directions in the manual are vague to me and there is no separate manual for the phone. I have a bluetooth Verizon cell phone. I keep getting a "No Phone" prompt on the screen and when my cell searches it says it can't find a bluetooth device, I guess meaning the car. I have a feeling that the previous owner has set a code that I am unaware of. Can the dealer reset the code? I'd like to use this feature in the car. A little help/direction would be much appreciated.

Chances are the telematics were not installed in the first place as it was an option. Read this:

The MikBox Mercedes Handsfree Solution

You can probably contact a dealer to run your vin to see if the PSE was installed at the factory.

Your "no phone" message is accurate--you don't have a phone capability.

To have one, you need a box of electronics in the trunk (PSE) and a holder for a phone, usually found in console.

Bluetooth did not exist in 2004.

In order to have it with a 2004 car, you need the holder for a V60 phone and the bluetooth module that fits that holder.

Thanks, that clears it up. As for the code issue. The manual said to punch in a code. I simply thought that perhaps there was a code, like the security code on a radio, to turn on the phone. I don't think that's too hard to understand.

Not any smarter than you, at least now that you clarify what you were after with the code. Believe me, some others expect what I thought you were after.

The fact that a car with phone related buttons does not necessarily have any phone kit installed is a common source for confusion. Sorry again for "attacking" a wrong person.

No problem Diesel I told my wife to use her cell phone, for our purposes it makes no sense to spend the additional money for another phone and another service. I think when the salesman went over the car he mentioned that you could hook up a phone to the car and that's where the confusion came in. My next endeavour will be to try and get the Homelink door opener to work. It only took me 2 and 1/2 years to get it to work on my Crossfire. Thanks again for the quick response to my question and
