Wide wheels.

Anyone know what the widest wheel and tyre combination I can get away with on an slk55 amg. Both back and front. Want to remain with an 18inch rim. Local MB dealer useless on issues away from the norm.

I did not find the AMG document but why wouldn't the big or wide wheels not be allowed for the smaller engine car. This document lists the wheels that the factory approves for an SLK 350.

Your car is optimized by AMG. There were no cost compromises.

Changes you make from AMG-spec will be downgrades.

I think I agree with Kent. Bigger isn't always better

To OP, this question would like get more response in the R171 Forum.

Although I agree that MB likely did the best compromise in selecting the OEM setup, cost is always an issue. May be they are not under as much cost pressure for a SLR but every car company must make money to stay in business. So every car line has to make money.
