How do you like your Dealer?

My Dealer is Mercedes Benz of KC. Service has been great, prompt and always a loaner car. My Service advisor takes great care of me and my SL. Always washed and Vac'ed after any warranty or service work. I've owned several Lexus cars and SUV's and Lexus is known for their great service, but I must admit that my Mercedes dealer is even better then Lexus. I would say sales at my Mercedes dealership is maybe average. Product knowledge was poor when it came to the sales manager. The sales guy new the product and was helpful but once the car was mine he really did not care much. I will be buying another SL in the next couple of years and if the service continues to be as good as its been I will buy from them. Might look for another sales guy but they change often at dealerships so that won't be an issue. Is what I am experiencing common for most Mercedes dealerships???

I deal with a couple of dealers and like them both a lot - but deal only with the parts department. I would not even think of going to the service department and becoming a paying customer. I tremble at the very thought of it. Of course I have a 13 year old car. If I had an in-warranty car it might be different.

I too only deal with the parts department at my dealer (Rallye Motors - Roslyn, LI). I can't imagine better service from another dealer. They are a 10 out of 10.

Over the last few years I have become to busy to spend time with my car in the garage for hours on end (ahhhhh, the good old days) So I go to the dealer now. They are great and are located 3 miles from my home. It goes like this.

Make my appointment online at
I receive a call in about 2 hours to confirm
I pull into the dealer give my key to the porter
My loaner pulled in (a Mercedes)
I get a call mid day that my car is ready
Drive loner in
My car is pulled around a washed
Inspect and pay.

Euro Motorcars in Germantown MD!

Its great!

closest dealer is prestige motors. paramus n.j.
when the parts dept had a separate entrance, things were ok.
now they moved it so you have to pass through the showroom.
it's glitzy (parts dept) and useless.
I'm guessing they want you to buy a car instead of pick up parts.
as far as service. I never had any done there.
I did, however go to try and get an appt to do a recall repair on my 2000 SL500.
they said two MONTHS! I just turned and walked away!
there is another dealer fairly close. Globe M-B in Fairlfield, n.j.
they have a better reputation, but again, have not been there for anything.

I think it depends on the person and your relationship with him/her. Most of these dealers in metropolitan areas are owned by large corporations such as Auto Nation, Penske etc. Beside their corporate policies and policies of the car manufacturer, only the particular person can make or break your experience. So it does help when you sit down and try to get to know them. Then they will remember you from all of the other car owners.

Mine is very good (Smith Motor Cars in Charleston, WV). When the owner walks through, he always speaks and asks if his people are taking care of me. I bought this CPO there and they have always been willing to fix any little complaint I have had. I have never asked for a loaner, but they have them available. They always wash the car before giving it back to me.

The dealer out is really great with their customer service. I call my SA let him know I am bringing it in. Get there early to get my little C class loaner, off to work or where ever I go until they call me to pick her up. Car is always washed and clean. I am never nasty or snotty and if they have a little faux pau like they have a few times they always make good by me. Just received a gift card for $500 to get my sparks done (cost is under $500 and took it in yesterday at 88k miles. Car was idling for at least 10 minutes while I was chatting with my SA and no issue. As soon as I left after 5 minutes it started idling fast and check engine light came on. Took it right back and my SA made sure I got a loaner to take home over night and this morning he called to say when they put the new sparks in two of the ignition wires went bad that were due to the additional power the spark plugs put out. I was supposed to take my car in for her first smog since I owned it today but can't do it now. However, because of the inconvenience the dealer is smogging her free of charge after I get my first 150 miles with the spark plugs. I drive so much it will be very soon. They normally charge $135 for a smog. The smog place garage charges about $50. IT is better for me to drop it off get a loaner car, get a free smog at the dealer then to take her to a smog place and wait around for 30 minutes plus I don't have to pay for it. These are some of the little things that makes me go back to them. I also make sure for Christmas I give my SA a nice bottle of wine (if I know he drinks it) or a Starbucks card which I gave my new SA because I know he goes there every day. They appreciate customers who commend their outstanding custmer service and I have had nothing but great service from my local dealer.

James Motors in Lexington KY is great. Prior to having my on shop [and having newer cars] I used them and have nothing but good to say.

West Chester in Cincinnati has an excellent parts department. Rob [PM] and Mike are both beyond top shelf. Mike has decades of experience and knowledge to know what you want before you do. Mike will search high and low to find any part, any where and get it ASAP.

Manhattan in NYC is a good dealer, more expensive but takes very good care of clients. The level of client care makes up for the higher rates they charge.

Friendly Motors, Wappingers Falls NY. They can Die in a Fire. I have never had such abysmally poor treatment from a dealer [any marque] in my 35+ years of buying cars. They sold me a Starmark Certified 1998 C280 Sport in 1999. It Carfaxed clear and the Starmark "certified" that it had never had frame damage, etc. After it was found that it had been totaled [hidden by a MB dealer in Florida and flipped to Friendlys] they refused to address the certification falsification or address the problem. Further MBUSA would not get involved as it was a "FRANCHISE" issue. I was told at some point in the proceedings to go ahead and sue that MBUSA had more F*ckYou money than I did [by an MBUSA representative].

So 75% is not to bad. I think that is a C+ on most scales.

Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
