Can anyone help with pictures or a link to pictures.

Please also advise on the correct fluid - Dextron III seems to be talked about.

Thanks in advance

No Big Deal here. So you made a mistake. No one hurt, no one dead.
On my C230 the Transmission Dipstick is on left side of Engine as your looking
at the engine. In the rear. It has a Black Cap on it with a small red tab. Your's MAY be similar but I cannot testify.
I did a DIY on Tranny Oil Change this Calendar Year so you can do a SEARCH on it. It has pictures.

My PERSONAL SUGGESTION...is if you lost that much fluid....go a bit further and
drop the Pan, Change out the nasty looking Tranny Filter, Wipe down the Pan with Lint Free Cloth and Refill.
Again, I did a DIY on this.
Get the $35.00 Oil Dipstick for your Engine.
It will make your life so much easier.

Good Luck!
