Unhappy oil in ecu

Re 2001 C180 petrol 57000 miles

Car still running sweet as a nut but;

yellow warning light on ( looks like a gearbox )

Main merc dealer investigating but already have found
traces of oil in the ecu and tell me it is really bad news.
It looks like a seal has failed and oil has travelled down the
loom by capilliary action. My car is out of warranty on an
age basis but well under the 100000 miles point.

Is this a common fault please; I would be pleased to hear
from anyone who experienced this problem.

Regards John, a bit worried

Sorry to tell you this but they are right, it has happened on many models over the years. But dont let them tell you to change the computer as it is only oil and once the computer has been cleaned and the oil intake problem rectified all will work normally.

ERIC.
