I struggled with installing WIS for almost a week, but have now got it going.
I kept getting the "Config server is not available" message. I think the problem was that it needed to be installed directly from a local DVD drive. My laptop doesn't have one, so I was trying to use a network share/ copying the files locally.
I sorted the problem by creating ISO images of the DVDs. I then used a program called VirtualBox to create a virtual PC, which can mount the ISO images as a virtual DVD drive. Installed Win XP Pro SP 2 on a virtual PC, then followed the instructions.
I think that there are other programs you can use to mount ISOs as a DVD drive that don't require creating a virtual PC. VirtualBox did let me easily install a fresh XP without messing up my current setup. It's also got a really useful snapshot function that I used to create a snapshot before starting the WIS install. Before starting every attempt, I rolled back to my saved snapshot.
WIS looks like a good program. Now I just need to fix the central locking on my Vito...
