MB acceleration inaccuracies

Was just wondering if anyone knew why MB seems to put out slower times for the SL600's 0-60 than what others have reported it is capable of. I believe they list it as 4.4 seconds on their web site.

Thanks
Clayton

The European 0-100 km/h figure is 4.5, seems consistent. I believe it is so much of a question about the road surface quality at the power these cars have. Friction defines the acceleration instead of the engine power.

Usually it's a matter of marketing, and advertising numbers that drivers can actually get. In the SL600's case, normal conditions will make it very hard to reach 4.4s 0-60 mph. In the SLK 55s case, they quote 4.9s 0-60 (real world is 4.3-4.5) to protect SL 550 (0-60 5.3s, $25,000 more) and SL 55 (0-60 4.4s at twice the price) margins.

Thank you for the information guys. I had heard of times for the SL600 at 3.9 seconds, that is why i asked. But this does seem like a very low time.

Thanks

Most of the German auto makers (Mercedes, Porsche, BMW) tend to be conservative with their performance claims, and that's good. Variances among the various tests are often due to vehicle production variations, track conditions (including surface/traction, temperature, altitude, wind, humidity, launching techniques, etc.). These variations really are not inaccuracies.
