Cannot unlock doors HELP !!... - Benzworld.org

Hi everyone

Can you help ?
I have a 1998 ml 270 and yesterday went to unlock car with the fob and nothing.
I changed batteries in fob and resynchronised the key fob but still no joy .
Also another thing is the warning alarm now does not work if I leave the headlights on with the door open - any ideas ?
I've tried the spare keyfob that came with car (been sitting in draw for about 6 months - put in new batteries still nothing)

Please help :crybaby

You can get in to the car right!!! It seems that the codes have been lost. I take it you do "not" want to have the dealer recode it.

Thanks for reply - yes i can use the key in door lock to get in and also start and drive the car fine. The dealer says that keys need to be reprogrammed is that right ? Its not a problem for me to do that but just wondered why it suddenly stopped working and also the audible alarm for leaving lights on now doesnt work ?

Before you give your $$ to the local Stealership; make sure you change out your battery ( and you did ) and I've noticed on mine; when I pull the slide tray out with the batterys; it's "Funky" inside there.
I clean mine out with Alcohol, Swabs and Patience and it works fine after that.
Just a quick thought is all.

I had the same problem with my fob keys not working and replaced the batteries in both units with no luck. I was about to get a replacement from the dealer when I noticed the batteries had a bit too much play between the metal retaining bands. I placed a piece of folded aluminum foil between them, and now everything works fine in both fobs!
