I've always kept the engine bay clean, but not with pressure washing. Just wet paper towels every now and then, and in most places that I can reach, and the air cleaner polished with Nev=R=Dull once in a while.

I can't prove it, but I have the pretty strong idea that mechanics would really rather work on a car that has a clean engine than one with a greasy, filthy one.

Neither can I, but I have heard a mechanic who I know say the same thing.

Thank you. It used to belong to the man who owned the Beverly Hills Hotel.
He told me that he got rid of it because his 27 y.o. wife thought it was too flashy and he bought her a BMW instead.

I bought it certified pre owned when it was a few years old from a Mercedes Benz dealer near Disneyland.

Yeah, I used to do the same. Miss being able to do it on my W210 and R170.

It is psychological for a mechanic to work well on a clean engine, clean car for that matter. So, for your mechanic to respect your car, you have to respect it first.

I believe I think, so therefore, I think I believe !

Yeah !!!!!!. Good close up on the famous JOE's polished differential.
I was sad seeing guys laying in the parking lot dirt to admire it.
I wash my engines for practical reasons. I work on them, so it makes the job much more comfortable and also buying used vehicles I see all small problems before they become big ones.
Plain water on warm engine works for me just fine. I have good garden nozzle and 150 psi city pressure.

Nothing like a little elbow grease regularly applied to keep an engine clean. I routinely also use a high pressure, high volume air hose to blow out the engine compartment. It lets you get to spots you can't reach too.

I get a little nitpicky on my three, especially the 190. I have been showing the car in local car shows. Once you go through the pain and agony of cleaning and detailing the engine, it is fairly easy then to maintain them.
