Keep it clean and don't eat in it. Don't keep old gym clothes in it either.

You know, it's what's in the manual. Warm, soapy water. On the MB Tex anyway. I was amazed that it brought back the 'new car smell' 14 years later...

What kind of smell are you talking about? If the interior is clean & the leather has been cleaned & conditioned, it ought to smell good.

I keep mine clean and they never smell. On some older cars that I have bought that did have a smell, I usually could remove 80% of that smell by getting rid of the floormats and cleaning the carpet. New floormats and a few weeks of good "breathing" out of the sun would get rid of another 15% of those smells.

I just bought a Yankee Candle hang on the rearview mirror thingie that's supposed to smell like leather. I'll report back if it makes any appreciable difference, but I bought a used non-smoking car and I have never smelled anything objectionable.

If you have a partial leather interior, you might consider buying the Rejuvinator Oil and Pristine Clean from Leatherique

A used dryer sheet of your choice in the cabin filter box will do the trick, the scent of a new one might be to strong.
just be sure to put it in so it stays in place.

I wash the interior with a car shampoo a couple of times in the summer. Also scotch guard once a year. No food or drink. Water is okay. For the leather I use lexol, again once a year. The rest of time I use Meguires Leather conditioner. Also armor-all for the dash and windex on the inside windows. The PO of my slk was a smoker. No one who rides with me can get that smell anymore. Consistant cleaning and care is the key. On that car it helps that there is not a fabric headliner as well.

Also, if you store your car in the winter you can put in a few open boxes of baking soda. I do this with the 911. Also use dryer sheet as the previous poster mentioned.
