Anyone know what comand unit this is?

HI Everyone. Could someone tell me what comand unit this is? its on a 2002 CLK55AMG and is currently japanese spec. Im looking to replace it with a European unit but cant seem to find what part/type to order as a direct replacement.
It doesnt have a cd slot in its face but has auto changer in boot.
I originaly thought it was a COMAND 2 but that has a CD slot??
Any help would be greatly appreciated

That looks exactly like mine except for the long piece just above the 5 rectangular buttons, and that is where my single CD player is. Does yours have CD/NAV? If so, are you sure that you can't insert a CD in there somehow? That looks like a protective "door" that keeps dust/dirt out of your inner workings.

Good Luck,
MM

Hi Richyboyo,

I think this is the correct manual for you. http://phdwebsite.powerpulse.cc/COMA...K%20COMAND.pdf

and I would agree with Musickmann this looks like a protective door for a single cd insert, try to find out from this manual how to use it...

Thanks guys for the info. it would appear that the one i have is slightly diferent in the fact the eject button is an "R" for return i would guess it also has what would seem a light sensor or IR pickup next to the slot???. No mention of the slot cover in the manual either, I will try to get it out just to be curious!!
I would obviously prefer to have the one you have musicmann, do you think i could install it directly or will i have wiring headaches?
Cant seem to find anywhere on the car to insert the Nav cd if it isnt behind that protective infill! Maybe Japan had a one off type of system for ther cars??
thanks again guys

I think the triangular button to the right of your CD slot is the one that should eject the CD (at leeast it is on mine). Why don't you try pressing it to see if the door will open?

I see from your photo what you are calling a "light sensor or IR pickup" but I am out of town using another car so I cannot check mine until Monday. What I do know, is the screen background changes as a function of the headlight switch position. You can over-ride that by using the DISP button in the left grouping.

I have no idea about installation with wiring issues, but someone on here will undoubtedly have your answer. Good Luck!

Daggone, that's an odd unit as far as I'm concerned. Plus, there aren't many Asian members (who might understand the Japanese COMAND) on here as far as I know.

One guy's nickname is corkscrew, and I think he's in Taiwan or Singapore. He's a great guy and I don't think he'd mind a Private Message from you. I'm pretty sure that he buys cars in the "Orient" so he should be a good resource for you.
