Computer Reset fixed limp mode.. should it be ok?

My 99 ML 320 went into limp mode a couple weeks ago. If I am correct that limp mode= Reverse 2nd and 3rd ??

When I took it into the shop, the mechanic told me I should have the computer reset before doing anything else. After doing so (charged only for 1 hour labor) the car has run as normal. Is this something that I should worry about as indication of a big problem, or is this a normal thing? He told me that he used to have his reset regularly and that it would be fine for 6 months to a year.

Thank for the help.

He did not tell which fault codes existed? The first assumption should be that there is something wrong in the car that needs to be fixed, if nothing else, then a malfunction in the self diagnosis. Some random faults might be OK to be just cleared but even there it is an inconvenience, if it can happen again after 6 months, it can happen the day after too.

If you did not get the fault codes this time, next time ask those printed first and post them here for experts' comments.

yeah thats the valve body speed sensor. there is def a problem and i'll bet ya that your contact plate is garbage. you shouldnt have to reset a modual once or twice a year anyways i would have someone check out that speed sensor with actual values. most of the time they read 8000 mph wich overiously is not right. its not to bad of a job to do yourself, let me know the outcome and i can pm you detailed instruction. good luck
