This has come up many times before.
In the 1980s, AMG was an aftermarket tuner and was not connected to Mercedes Benz. Records of the modifications on individual customer's cars were not retained, or were subsequently lost, by AMG. They are not available. In the USA, all the AMG subsidiaries of that time are long gone, they all shut their doors, save one. There is NO AMG historical archives on vehicles from that era.
Few AMG cars from that era are with their original owners. I know of only one AMG car from the 80's that was purchased from a first owner, that still had the actual AMG paperwork with it. It was interesting to see. Most paperwork on any used car is usually long gone by the time the car devolves to its 3rd or 4th owner.
For the Mercedes vehicles themselves, in the USA, simply call 1-800-FOR MERCEDES and request from them a copy of the factory window sticker.
You will receive an accountant's copy of it, if the car was first sold in the USA. You need to provide proof of ownership.
A factory build sheet is available at no cost if you write a letter requesting one, in English, to the Factory historical archives, in Stuttgart, with a photocopy of the title of the car. Ask for the build sheet to be in English.
It takes about a month to get one. There is no charge for that service.
I don't know if the address I have is any good. It was from about 7 years ago.
