Crayon Smell Under Acceleration?

OK, How come when I give my car some extra umph, I get the smell of crayons inside the cabin?

Not sulfur as in a bad cat, but it actually smells like crayons.

WTF?

Interesting. I have a similar odor...like a wax crayon or a hot glue. But it only happens when the sun roof is cracked open. Very strange.

Any ideas?

Now that is really interesting because my sunroof was in fact open.

Have to check into that.

Could be that box of crayons I left in your engine compartment.

Mercedes Crayon Smell

I have determined what is causing the CRAYON SMELL inside the cabin. Mercedes used an inferior sound deadening material on all of the inside metal floors and firewall. It might be a great material to eliminate road and associated noise but it emits a strange odor (tar petroleum product) that gets into the cabin and eventually the odor permanently permanents the carpet and the seat materials.

I have been arguing with MB for months now about my vehicle (2009 S-550 W/ 5000 miles) with this problem and all that they are doing is dodging me and of course will not admit that there is a problem!

What to do?

I'd bet if the smell makes anyone nauseous or ill they would be in a better position to have something done about it. I am sensitive to odors to the degree that I get very sick, headaches and nausea, and have actually not purchased specific cars (non-Mercedes) because of their interior smell that was overwhelming on a test drive.

Well, after many months of playing the MB game the MB Boys have decided to do nothing to correct my problem with the odor which I have diagnosed myself, so I will once again attempt to correct this problem on my own. Here we have a 100+K vehicle and we have ended up receiving warrantee service as if we purchased a blender. It really surprises me that MB would stoop to these low levels. I even received better service from Cadillac in past years, not that that is a good comparison! AH's.......
