w/c reset button you're telling me? is it the buttons on the left of dashboard that has a "O" on it or those buttons that has + or -(plus or minus) on it(left side of the dash),if it is then I tried it and the trip-o-meter just reset to zeros and i didn't see the hold down word on it,tried it for several times with the electronic key to the start position, is the drivers door need to be close or open? or doesn't matter and I don't have a owners manual on it ,I misplaced it....thanks, your reply will be greatly appreciated,,
ctbenztech must have referred to the reset button you tried, the one used for resetting the trip meter. The procedure may have changed over different W202 models, you may find additional advice from the 202 forum, this is what I picked up:
A.) Turn key to position 2.
B.) Within four seconds press button 1 twice.
C.) Present status will be displayed. Within ten seconds turn key to position 0.
D.) Press and hold button 1 while turning key to position 2. Present status will be displayed again. Continue to hold button 1. After ten seconds signal will sound, and display will reset to 10,000 miles.
I understand that a user manual has been lost on a 1997 car, but it would still be a good idea to find one (perhaps a pdf copy, also the original paper copy from a dealer may not be expensive at all).
I hope you get more advice, meanwhile you might want to search some of the W202 posts.
