1997 Mercedes C230 - Car does not start

I have a 1997 C230 with 103 k miles on the clock, it has been serviced regularly by the Mercedes dealer since new, the car does not start anymore, it was running well until both my remote keys stopped working, I manually opened the doors and tried to start the car but with no success, I called the Mercedes emergency service and they told me to point the remote key to the rear view mirror and activate the green light but this did not work as well.
Headlights and other electrics do have power. Please Help!

I currently have the car at a non-dealer workshop, after doing many hours of fault finding, they've diagnosed the problem to fuse number 27, there is no power coming in, any suggestions?

I had the car towed to the local Mercedes dealership in West Chester (Cimcinnati), they diagnosed the problem to a bad cylinder head or a bad engine and quoted over $3200 to repair. I subsequently had the car towed to a specialist european car garage in Mariemont, Cincinnati called Larry Daniels Auto (website New Page 1) telephone number 513-271-1746 and spoke to Mike Bender, they ran a whole bunch of tests and traced it to a bad fuse, this is amongst the most honest and trustworthy people I have dealt with, highly recommended, the problem was traced to a power problem with fuse 18, the major problem in debugging the problem was that the fuse diagram that was on the car did not match the fuse box, the garage then resolved the problem by ordering new wiring diagrams from Germany.

These are the fault finding diagnoses that they conducted:

1. It's possible that the immobilizer/anti-theft device has been activated, disarm anti-theft
2. part failure of the "all" auxilliary module
3. remote keys has to be replaced/reprogrammed as well as the electronic key control module
4. replace APA ignition switch
5. Bad battery - don't jump start, it can cause computer overload failures, existing battery may need to be recharged
6. Override the TCM module
7. Air Flow Meter/switchover relay valve
8. Fault with SAM unit - Signal Acquisition Module
9. Fault with EIS switch - Electronic Ignition Switch
10. check for spark, ignition coils, cam and crank position sensors
11. Bad Coil
12. Bad Starter
13. Faulty fuel Pump
14. Faulty Smart Key/Key FOB
15. Timing Belt
16. Have the crankcase position checked
17. check for water in fuel
18. Test starter - open right side fuse box, find a reddish connector with just one purple wire on it, take a long wire from the positive terminal on the battery to the purple connector, turn on the ignition (in park), you'll hear the motor cranking, if it starts up then no problem with the SAM unit or EIS or CAN communication.
19. check power to fuses (in and out)

If you have any type of car problem, contact Larry Daniels Auto, they are honest and don't overcharge (they repair Ferraris and Porches as well.)
