The TSB says venting acid not just hydrogen gas.

If I knew that I will be leaving the car outside for 4/5 months not used, I'd just disconnect the battery for the whole time.

I used a similar solar panel on my seldom used Suburban but it didn't work. I never found out what the problem was. After changing to a new battery, never needed that panel again. The car would start even after 2-3 weeks.

I don't think that's a good idea...at least from what I've read.

Ummm...yeah, but the battery generates heat, so the gas is warm. When it cools, acid condenses from it. Same thing as boiling water on the stove, the steam is a gas but as it cools, it turns to water droplets on the underside of the range hood. Hence, if you don't vent the vapor (hydrogen gas) to the outside of the car, it condenses inside the compartment as acid.

Agreed. The whole purpose of my preparations before I left, wash/wax, Sta-Bil,
Oil Change, Fill the Gas Tank, Car Cover, Overpressurize Tires, Solar Battery Charger was when I returned 5 months later; my Car would be in good condition and start.
I have been reading horror stories on the Forum about when the Battery dies how it started a cascade of problems.

No doubt MB's are "energy hogs".
Everything worked out smoothly.

Of course this can work for your Motorcycle, RV, Boat, Aeroplane etc.
Not just the Charger Unit but also the preparation beforehand.
