S500 2003 Front Wheel Shake

Hi I am new to this whole Mercedes thing
I bought my wife a used S500 4Matic in Dec '06
We both love it
Great car !!

Not long after buying --- the front wheels started shaking at 60mph and above
Dealers says both front wheels are bent
The wheels are the stock 7 Spoke alloys that came on the car.

I did not know Allow wheels could bend ?
Is that true ?
Anyone know of anything else I shoud test before buying two new wheels

thanks

have them rotated to the back then balance the rears. you might still get a vibration in the rear seat but it wont be real noticable. and it wont effect the stearing wheel. this is the cheapest fix,if it is bothering you with them in the rear then you will have to replace them. alloy rims bend easier then steal. there are some people that fix them but depending on how bad they are, it might be about the same as a good used rim. check on ebay and on here some one is bound to have a set for sale

I bought a used 2000 CLK430 almost two years ago, and it had a bent wheel ... saw it for myself when I tried to balance it after installing new tires. I could see the wheel wobble while spinning on the balancing machine. I didn't go to the dealer though because they aren't cooperative in providing good communications. If I go to the dealer here to get a repair some guy in a suit takes my keys and calls me when it's done, but I have no idea what went on in between.

That sounds like what's happened to you. The dealer told you your wheels are bent, but you didn't see it for yourself. Maybe you're wondering how bent are the wheels? Are they both bent? Is that what's causing the shaking? Etc...

I guess my point here is don't forget about other options. You could go to another shop and have them test the wheel and tell them you'd like to see for yourself because you're having the wheel shake problem. Or, you could even jack the car up yourself if you're comfortable with that, and spin the wheel while it's still on the car.

Also, other things could cause wheel shake too, such as bad shocks, worn tie-rod ends, or other worn suspension parts.

They can and probably are damaged--bent or not. I would take this as an opportunity to dump the old seven spoke wheels and get a new and much better-looking set of wheels--all four. I did it and it was like starting all over w/ a new car.

Don't believe everything you think
