This is the way MB did it, at least since W123, don't remember how it was before that. And today this (or similar) is mandatory for all cars sold at EU (also American), the point being that people would leave their fog lights on unintentionally, specifically the rear one which would be disturbing (both are forbidden in normal weather). How many years was MB ahead of the others?

The front fog lights can be used without main beams, just the parking lights have to be on.

Not on an older model, by I dont see why the turn signal/emergency flasher unit on the slk needs to be so elaborate (and expensive). Seems like major over-kill.

Test Drive Notes: Mercedes-Benz CL500 (2001)
The windows, unfortunately, are a pain in the tuchus. Part of what your $90 thou pays for is a bunch of electronics that are supposed to do some of the thinking for you. In the case of the windows, they remain every so slightly cracked open when closing the door. This allows air to escape from the otherwise airtight CL500, and makes closing the doors that much less of an effort. As soon as the car senses that the door is fully closed, the windows seal shut.

When Tommy tried to close the windows, however, he had his own personal "2001: A Space Odyssey" moment. Every time he tried to roll the windows all the way up, they'd pop down an inch. Up Tommy'd put them, and down they'd come again. Tommy swears he heard HAL saying, "I'm sorry, Tommy, but I'm afraid I can't let you do that."

MB needs to keep working on adequate engineering these days, after several years of poor quality in the past decade.
