I have everything thats needed for a good ride.
Didn't read the thread carefully but from the features above, I assume you have had issues with the antenna, the cruise control, the sunroof (cleaning and lubrication as is the fix on other cars), or you've been very lucky. Or you do the repair yourself and don't count these issues? The tranny does not have electronics, and lacks features accordingly.
"Everything for a good ride" is very personal, in fact MB has been quite successful with their accessories, at least from MB point of view, when an owner has selected a new accessory, he/she loves it and wouldn't buy the next car without it (99% of the time). This also means that often people do not see an accessory useful if they haven't had that on their own car (don't know the percentage here, I know several accessories I would see useful and would want to have but are out of my budget).
Don't get me wrong, I have owned and driven a W123 and a W124 and could say these were relatively better cars at their time. It is just too much to expect from an old car to compete with modern cars at their time, already because of the wear and tear on the old cars. Just does not make sense to compare these cars without being decent and taking into account the fact that they are from a different time, and were built for different environmental requirements etc. etc.
A well maintained car like Merc79 has is lovely in its own class, no doubt about it.
