USA S-Class Question

I'm from the US. I was behind a benz S-550 but the guy had an "AMG" emblem on the right side of the trunk where it would normally be on a 63 or 65. Is he just some dick who is trying to trick people into thinking his car is better than it is, or is there another explanation???

Odd, has this changed since early S550 cars? See forum member nevadajack's car, it does not seem to have the AMG badge (the car does have the AMG package).

Also EPC does not indicate the AMG badge for the rear lid as an option for an S550.

The only cars that have AMG badges from factory are the AMG cars S65 etc.

I wouldn't exactly call the guy a poser.

If he has the AMG package...he probably had the dealer add the badge to let everyone know that he is sporting true AMG equipment.

A lot of Bimmer enthusiasts do that with BMW M-Power.

Say someone got an E46 330i ZHP, or a 330i with the M-Technik package. Sometimes they would put a badge before the 330i so it would read out M330i or on the opposite side of the 330i badge to show everyone that he's sporting true BMW M equipment and that he's proud to.

What you should be really worried about is if the person replaced the S550 badge with an S63 badge or what not when it's quite obvious visually that he really doesn't have an S63.

Thats so weak, the AMG badging should be reserved for AMG engines. The AMG body is like a 3,000 dollar option (I'm guessing so don't criticize me) where as the engine is considerably more expensive. This really makes me mad if MB has decided to slap the AMG badge on all of those cars.

The only things the 321 AMG Package adds are front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and wheels.

Sure AMG used to do that too as a separate tuner, but that was then, this is now. On current models, having the AMG badge on a non-AMG car would be "posing." On past models which were tuned or modified by AMG when it was separate, I would have no problem with the AMG badge because that's what they did.

Sport packages on new models no longer look like their respective AMG variant.
