Cold Weather Starts for Diesel Benz

I have a '83 300D that I park on the street in an urban area. I have a heater plug installed but no access to an outlet when I'm parked on the street. I'm afraid that come winter, I will not be able to start car on cold mornings. Is there any portable battery powered heater elements I can keep in my car and plug into car to help start car in the mornings? Any other suggestions?

Don't forget a Diesel should NOT be started like a Gasoline Engine.
Let the GLOW PLUGS WARM UP FIRST. A turn of the key for say; 30 long seconds or so may help you. Go to Auto Zone and get some Diesel Fuel Cleaner.
I think its called Cetane Cleaner/Diesel Fuel Conditioner something, something. I forget. Diesel engines at FIRST are a bit difficult first AM but once you got her going; she is strong and powerful in the Winter!
