Mercedes-Benz is retrenching
Source Automobile October issue:
"Mercedes will drop the A-class and seeks a new partner for the next B-class... The Mercedes-Benz A-class was a prime example of brand's dramatic expansion, and the B-class that followed seemed a sign that Mercedes wasn't looking back. But the company is retrenching. Now that it has shed its Chrysler division and scaled back Smart from three models to one, the shrinkage will hit the baby Benzes as well..."
Daimler has approached Volkswagen, Honda, Peugeot, and BMW about partnering for the B-class, Talks with the first three companies went nowhere; surprisingly, however, BMW was receptive, maybe based on the next generation Mini.
