I am suprised at myself, but with three other cars in leather I prefer the MB-Tex like may other people here. I have it in Ash and found it cleans up well, is comfortable to the touch and sits well.
My preference is fabric, but MBUSA erected barriers, preventing that material from gracing our shores. So, I chose the leather. The leather is great.
We specifically ordered fabric back in 1997 when we ordered ML320. Maybe that's why we had to wait full year for delivery?
But the fabric looks like new now (maybe dirty since our son has the truck now).
We used to drive Volvo for 17 years/170,000 miles. The fabric was dirty, but still no tears and no wear-outs. That was our family car and school beater for years.
Coming to leatherette the one on 1983 model was in better shape than one on the 1998 model I have now. I notice quality of materials declining comparing older and newer models. Harmonic balancers, rubber grommets, plastic trims, headlight lenses.
The only thing that was going bad after 20 years on W123 were headlights door.
Leatherette is much more durable than the leather and will not loose the color in just few years. I bought expensive captain chair for my motorhome. It says "leather" while only center pieces are natural leather, while the sides, that get most of the abuse are vinyl. Even with my practice I had to take a peak under the seat to confirm the difference.
I'll have to admit that I do love the MB-TEX. I've never seen anything like it over the years, but nothing beats the AMG leather, it's uber soft, and as much as you pay for a Mercedes Benz, whats another $1500-3000 more (depending on your model)? Unless your just barley able to afford your Mercedes, then I can understand the need to cut down on potential unnecessary expenses. Hey you'll love it either way, Enjoy Your Brand New Mercedes Benz!!
The MB tex will last 10X longer than the leather and will look newer and better in the long run. If you plan to park the vehicle outside in the sun then definitely go with the MBtex. Also a LOT LESS maintenance

In my "leather" car, only the parts that I touch are leather (upper parts of the seats, center armrest, steering wheel, shift lever (also the small gathered portion on the doors that we really do not touch); everything else is MB-Tex. In an "MB-Tex" car, as far as I know, there is no leather at all.
