Took in my car for B service...

Hey! I am new, but I have been lurking around these forums for a longgggg time. Anyways, I took in my 06 ml500 for service b for the first time (preowned), and I can't believe Benz is charging for services now. I had a 03 c230 and got all my services done for free. The service guy said something about how before, the maintence, was included in the cars sale price, I don't know if that is crock of bull, I was trying to research it online. I think it's pretty lame, I mean, i didn't really mind, paying 320 for this service, but it's just weird handing them my credit card, when for years, going through different benzs, I was handed my keys, and done. What do you people think about this? Can someone please clarify this whole new service policy with me? sorry if this has been answered, but I searched, here and on google, couldn't really come up with any specific answers. Thanks!

Go back to economics 101.

Everything you get under warranty you paid for in the price of car.

Those that got free service paid for it in the price of the car.

This applies to EVERY car sold EVERYWHERE.

I don't know whether it started in 2005 or 2006 or with those model years but MB no longer includes free A or B service with the purchase or lease of a vehicle.

2004 ML350 Black with charcoal leather, OEM Hitch, Rhino step, Bose, Navigation, OEM front guard, Comfort package, Entertainment package, Sunroof, heated seats.

and guess what. the price did not drop. thats the only thing benz fucked up.
should have kept the service plan, like bmw.
but 320 for a b service is good my shop charges over $450. thats a full b service
with dust filter air filter wipers inspection tire rotation and balance plus oil changed

The only reason Mercedes gave free services was because starting in 1998, Mercedes-Benz and Mobil 1 signed a 6 year contract stating that Mercedes would ONLY sell Mobil 1 oil and the Mobile company in return would pay for the services (A and B) offered by MB. And in 2005 when the contract was up, they decided not to renew.

Thats the jist of it.

On Wednesday, the service manager at my local dealer emailed me the attachment. If anyone is paying a boatload of cash for service, they may wish to consider joining MBCA and taking advantage of the dealer service discounts. Based on what I'm seeing, the discount on a single B service would more than cover 3 years of MBCA membership. For those who choose not to join, well, someone has to pay retail . . . . . . .

Hmm, we do $175/295, and no taxes here, so we get off good.
A Service:
Dust filter.
Washer fluid.
Mobil 1 Synthetic (most of the cars take 8-8.5qts)

B Service:
All the above plus air filter and a more thorough inspection.

I'm pretty sure that's it, might have missed something though.

We're finding though that a lot of the newer cars call for services that aren't necessarily the standard A or B rate, so it can be less or more. Especially ML's and E Wagons for some reason.

I have found that with very little investment, I have been able to do all of, both, the A and B service, and feel better about having an intimate knowledge of the state of my vehicle. I don't mind the cost of the A and B services, but I want more than what they actually do. When I look at the A service, for example, I can see the oil change and feel good about that, but the dust filter, washer fluid top off, inspection (if you mean state inspection, it's not covered in MA), is not much more than what I would expect to be covered at a full service station with my fill-up. I hate leaving the dealership feeling that I've been taken!
