Thanks StreetGlower, Got the car back yesterday. Just like new... 800.00 bucks later. It was still under factory warranty! I would not be caught dead without a warranty on this car.

I have a similar problem with my CLK. Oddly, I can move the shifter into P R N & D with no problem and the car runs through the gear changes as normal but I cannot access 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th. It's as if someone welded a steel bar in the shifter.

You can replace your broken gear selector lever with a new one from Home | Monoglobal. Fitting instructions included. No VIN coding required.

yeah, unfortunately on the 230 chassis and 220, you have to hammer the end of the shifter handle, (AFTER CAREFULLY REMOVING THE SHIFTER KNOB PEOPLE) to get them out of park when the shifter does go bad; common problem on these cars, everything else has a D hole release or a button under the shifter, as on the 211; the last 230 chassis I had with a bad shifter, I jacked it up and removed the shifter linkage keeper key, not very easy to remove, but saves you from having to drag the car out of the clients garage, leaving nice long skid marks on his new driveway, while hes standing there wanting to rough you up, because you're the guy hes mad at right now; not the wrecker driver, hes grinning, as the car squeals its way up the rollback bed, thanks for listening, Take care, Ron
