1978 2 door mercedes - whats it worth?

Hi, im looking at buying an old merc as a project car, and i've found one of these for sale here in Perth, australia.
its got the 350 engine, the body has no rust but the paint isnt good. the electric windows dont work but apart from that its pretty good.

They want $700

is that a bargain?

SL? SLC? That is a bargain, assuming the engine and transmission are in decent shape, but I've got a 78 450SL that I got last October and I stopped counting when the money I was putting into it went the other side of $7000. It needed paint, suspension rebuilt, soft top, upholstery, carpet, climate control repaired, cruise control repaired, original wheels (someone had put some really hideous aftermarket wheels on it) and a LOT of work to restore the vacuum control system in the engine. I've done nearly everything myself on the weekends in my garage, or the cost would have been at least twice what I've paid.

If you're mechanically inclined and don't mind going to work Mondays with grease still under your nails, it can be done. If you want to have someone else do it, find a car that's already in pristine condition. It'll cost you less and you'll drive it more. I was going for a project car, so I'm happy with what I've got. Someone who just wanted to drive it wouldn't have been.

When I die, I want to go quietly in my sleep, like Grandpa.
Not screaming, like the people in his car.
