08 SL550 costs $22,536 a year to insure??? WTF?

http://finance.yahoo.com/insurance/a...cars-to-insure

"Eyeing that 2007 Mercedes S Class with all the trimmings? Be prepared to pay through the nose for it.

And for the insurance.

It should come as no surprise that the more expensive the car, the more it will cost to insure it. But just how expensive may come as a shock. For modest coverage ($500 deductibles on collision and comprehensive coverage, $100,000 each for personal and property coverage and $25,000 each for medical and uninsured coverage) on this year's $135,400 Mercedes SL, owners will pay about $22,536 a year.

... "

wtf,??

Sounds like there must be lots of these totalled in junkyards.

Perhaps could offset insurance costs with cheap parts prices.

Just to make the maths easy as I don't know the discount rate you will pay out the value of the car in 6 years at that rate, wow even more thinking about the depreciation of the car over those 6 years and what you could pick up a used SL for......thats insane.

Out of curiosity I called my insurance for quote. Actually used Internet chat, what took almost 1/2 hr since agent needed sample VIN for accurate quote (found one on ebay) and some additional info

My 6 month primium is $775 with a perfect driving record through Allstate. Do you live in the city? If you do, I better compare my auto insurance company's rates with others.
