Help--stuck in park

I was driving today from Minnesota to Chicago and spilled a small portion of water on my console. Immediately thereafter the several lights came on and the ESP (??) light stayed lite in the left corner. When I pulled off the expressway several hours later I noticed that I had very poor acceleration but I was able to get home. When I pulled into the garage I couldn''t get the car to reverse. I moved it to park and it was then stuck.

I called road side assistance and they told me to insert a pen into the hole near the shifting stick and after playing with it I was able to get the car out of park and shift the gears.

There are now no error messages on the dashboard. My question is has the problem fixed itself or do I need to take it to the dealer who will probably tell me it needs to be fixed even if it doesn't.

Wear a bib next time you drink and drive, or drink from a bottle with a non drip teat...
Just kidding!.
Hopefully natural evaporation has sorted your problem - good luck!.

Hi, Bob.

I'm glad you got home okay; liquid in the console is a bad deal on late-model MB cars.

As a precaution I'd probably pull the console cover and run a blow dryer on low heat in there, and then probably disconnect the battery and reconnect it to clear any codes and let things reset. Be sure your owners manual is handy as you'll need to manually reset the windows and you may need the radio code.

If the problem stays gone, say a prayer of thanks and count your blessings.

Take care and enjoy the ride,

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
