1)Style that never goes out of fashion. People come up to me all the time and want to talk about the looks of my 300CE. That is a 20 year old design that still looks modern today. Look how many W124 300e's you still see on the road.

2) Driveability. Nothing, and I mean nothing drives like a Benz.

1984 300D 225,000 miles (hit and totaled by bad driver)
1987 300E 209,000 miles (donated to worthy cause, still going)
1988 300E 240,000 miles (given to one of my sons)
1998 E320 120,000 miles (Obsidian, 17' E500 rims, sold to another son)
1990 300CE 129,000 miles (Silver/ black int) Daily Driver
2000 E430 82,000 miles ( Desert Silver 17" W211 rims)

For me it's the great engine (aside from the power, the V8 CLK gets very good fuel economy on trips), fantastic brakes, and the W208 handles quite well for a four seater.

Yep, the pleasing mellow "thunk" every time I close the door of my 27 year old car.

Gas mileage on my 1980 450slc is pretty horrific and I easily get 30+ mpg from my 2003 Nissan Maxima but I am selling my Nissan to go back to my 450slc as my daily driver.

Body rigidity is the top of my list. After 27 years (at least the 10 years I have had her) I have never adjusted the doors and there is no droop what so ever and they still close perfectly.

1980 450slc converted to MegaSquirt electronic fuel injection and couldn't be happier!

1. That shining star.
2. A car that remains in the family, passed on from one generation to the next.
3. Feel right at home in a newer model due to similar ergonomics and equipment layout.

Engineered Like No Other Car in the World

I have been thinking about this question a lot and to be honest I jus loved the brand from the time i was very young. It was among the very first brands (of any product e.g. toothpaste blaa blaa...) I recognised as a toddler.

So really, regardless of innovations and various advancements, i just choose to associate with Mercedes-Benz than anything else. I guess I am a victim of branding and the older I get the more sentimental I feel about the brand.

From a more logical perspective safety comes first for me and therefore Mercedes-Benz being the leader in automotive safety has my interests at heart.

But then maybe that opinion is also influenced by MB... so i don't know.

What the heck!!! I am a VICTIM OF BRANDING.

Owning a merc is a special thing. PERIOD!

body lines are the first thing that comes to mind. MB makes good body's for their cars...makes you want to take care of them.

My list would be from features 'not exclusive' to M-B...but the fact that you get all of them together in one car.

1) IRS. Driving an M-B being heavy and combined with the Independent Rear Suspension makes it squat around corners, resulting in secure and precise handling, never scary, even when driving aggressively.

2) Double walls, paneling, padding, insulation. Everywhere you look, the car is insulated from drafts and noise. Even the chrome trim around the windows is designed to reduce/eliminate road and wind noise.

3) Rubber drivetrain couplings instead of mechanical u-joints. Engineering wise the pinion angle needs to be much closer to 0 degrees for these to work properly, but the result is a nice soft smooth drive...one of the little intangibles that you realize feels better in an M-B but aren't sure why. Likewise the soft exhaust system mounting and flex joints enhances this feel.

4) High quality materials. Compare with any other make year-for-year and you will see that M-B is using better stuff.

Well I could go on and on...but with the stops pulled for every feature, it results in a superior driving car

Did you ever figure the cost to fix her crack?.
Other ML owners deserve to know they can take a hard impact up the rear end......
