Traction problems on 2002 class C

Hi there!
My 2002 class C sportcoupe (and all others I guess) has a serious traction problem due to the open differential. This is most critical on 2 situations: when 1 of the wheels is on ice and the other on tarmac, and when getting out of a garage that has a curve in the middle on the ramp. In these 2 situations, one of the wheels starts spinning hopelessly, leaving me stuck without moving... the esp can't do anything to help.
On the other hand my father's class E (2005 I think) doesn't do this, I think the esp senses the spinning wheel and brakes it so that the other wheel gets going.

Has this happened to any of you?
Is there anyway to fix this problem? Like a esp update maybe?

Cheers!

I have a 2005 CLK and it has ESP & ASC. in laymans terms, it is the anti skid control (ASC) which brakes the spinning wheel, not ESP. I believe ESP works when it senses you are about to skid, i.e., when taking a corner too fast, not when starting off in a straight line. That is my experience in the short time I have had the car, I stand to be corrected if anyone knows different.

On ice there isn't such thing as better tires, unless of course you're talking about ice tyres
Doesn't ASC use the exact same sensors as the ESP? If so it's only a diference in software and my hope was that there was a way to change the car's software to add ASC

you cant add a systm like that if it didnt come wired for it or programed. its not just sensors all the control modual would have to be changed to calculate wheel slip. just because the sensors read the same thing dosent me the computers will.

I'm stumped by the fact that mercedes (a brand from a country were there is lots of ice in the winter) can make a car that as soon as it gets one tyres on ice it just wont budge
If it was a cheap brand that would be understandeable, but it isn't...
Oh well, I can always add an LSD I guess
