This Can't Be Good!

So I'm a block from home and I hear a noise from the front of the car as it dies! I tried starting it once and it wasn't having any part of that. I pop the hood and this sight greeted me.

Any guesses? How many thousands of $$ is this gonna cost me?

Condolences -- let's hope for the best. As long as the damage is confined to a jumped chain and one valve bank (or something similar), it might not be too bad.

The valve cover has a big crack in it! It is already at Edin's.

I had it towed there last night and called them first thing this AM (hoping they had the car - the tow truck driver didn't know if they had a key drop or not). When I described what happened, he said it was probably the timing chain but he would check it out and let me know.

While it's at Edin's, you might want to as them what it would cost to convert to double chain - there is a conversion kit - when we lived in Houston, there were a couple of guys with pre '85 380SL's that had done the conversion.
