My heart goes out to you. If it's any conciliation, I found one on Ebay with a tranny for much less.

eBay Motors: Mercedes SL Engine w/ Transmission 78k miles 560sl w107 (item 330154118115 end time Aug-14-07 17:00:00 PDT)

I imagine it would fit. And some more horses.
