Rear Windshield

General question

Approximately how much would it cost to replace the rear windsheild on my 00' s500? I have a huge crack going through it.

I'm debating if I should just do it through insurance or just pay for it but I have no clue about costs.

Any good locations to take it to in Maryland for replacement?

In a worst case scenario, without the heat reflective material, the glass has a dealer list price of $1210. With the heat reflective material, the glass has a list price of $1370.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what's available in Maryland.

Does that include installation? What is "heat reflective material?"

Don't believe everything you think

I had front windshield replaced on SLK about 300$ Highly recomend these guys in Chicagoland - Reflection Auto Glass - 630-546-0545

Install work probably 100-150$, glass probably can be had for 200-1000$ Call high end bodyshop and ask who they use for glass work. Insurance may cover it under "glass coverage" - some companies in some states have no deductable for glass replacement

You really need to call your insurance agent. It may cost you $0, or it may not be covered at all (eg if it did not break as a result of something hitting it).

No installation. That's the "come pick up the glass you ordered" price. I'm sure the MBCA discount is enough to pay for years of membership, but full retail is $1210 or $1370 depending on the heat reflective material. Speaking of which, I have no idea what it is. It may be infrared-reflective glass, that's what they use in the newer cars.

This is what I was about to suggest, the W221 has the options 596/596 for heat and noise insulating glasses, I would assume something similar for a W220 (not any more the dual layer glass with air/vacuum in-between that was used for side windows at least on a W140 but a special glass still). The rear window after all has the antenna wires and heating wires integrated, not an easy task for any glass manufacturer to produce one (I assume).

Better check (from EPC) which one belongs to your car. On an E, even the glass colour may be different for different models.
