You can go to the dealer or INDY to read the code that threw the CEL [about an hour or two of your time] or even someplace like AutoZone or Advanced Auto [fifteen minutes tops and a FREE service] will have code readers that can determine what code it threw out. If it says gas cap, then, yes, you just need to replace it as it is not closing properly [even though it may "feel" closed].
Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
