I have had everything from a 123, late 107, late 124, to early 140, and late 210. the 123 was the best overall, the others great. The worst was the 98 ML which I could not wait to get rid of and lost money big time. The 140 (wifes) for the last 16 years, is an expensive vehicle but yet I can substantiate it.
MBs which used to overpopulate the garage here are being replaced by Lexus, I have seriously shopped them. MB used to care about customers, the quality has slipped, and the dealer network focuses on squeezing you for every dollar.

Absolutely! It's the only thing on the road that "speaks" to me. I have to buy used (Im not made of money) and I have an "indy" mechanic (I dont visit the stealerships unless they are closed), so my experience has been good. Minimal issues aside from normal wear and tear on my '98 E320. With 145,000 miles on her, there are things that have to be replaced....on any car. People anymore think a car should go forever with no maintenance at all. Not happening. I can't handle Lexus (they just have no SOUL in my opinion) and everything else just seems cookie cutter. I used to love BMW (until Chris Bangle beat their cars with the ugly stick)...but their interiors just dont seem to hold up well. Im a die-hard, what can I say?

An answer in two words: Hell yeah. My wife and I are third time Mercedes owners and quite proud of it. We had a 99 ML320 which we eventually sold, not because there was anything wrong with it, and despite its 159K miles, it was a strong seller when it's service to us was complete. We now have an ML500 which is a flagship of an SUV. Fuel consumption keeps it parked most of the time as my wife's daily is a Toyota Yaris and mine is a 240D- which is another story of success right there. 311K miles and STILL running. Its true, once you've followed the star, you just cant turn back!

I think that the 190 was of superb quality...our 1986 190D, with the 2.5 and a 5-speed, is pushing 400 000 km on it and it's had less work done than my 1997 C230. Yes the car is in dire need of body work, but it won't stop...no matter how hard we push it. It is rare up here and was quite innovative I think for its time...like heated washer jets (awesome!).

meh ... I would buy a BMW or even a Subaru before another MB. If I have a choice between my S500 and my WRX, I take the WRX.

Maybe he tried to rally the S500 in the snow.

^^Actually, I did take the S500 to a winter safe driving course at Team O'Neil Rally School in NH and it did very well. Very stable and easy to control without the ESP being intrusive. My wife likes the car and its a good family car especially for highway cruising. But its not much fun to drive and random things keep failing on it. Its a very good car in a lot of ways, not so great in others. Certainly not something to justify "nothing else will do."
