Since build quality is assembly dependant, has anyone ever compared assembly problems based on the plant of origin? Bremen is where the C, CLK, SLK, and SL are assembled. Sindelfingen is home to the C, E, CLS, S, CL, and Maybach.

Totally. After all the clap I had to go with Audi service - MB has a head start for my daily driver slot.

Marcus,

That's an interesting question, but IMO, Germans robots are German robots!

I'd buy another older Benz again! An early nineties W124 500E is my fave.

Which leads into a related question - Do you think they use German robots at the Tuscaloosa plant, US robots, Transformers, or . . . . . . . .

Because many people say there is a difference between what's built here and what's built in Germany. I have no long term truck experience, so I couldn't say.

Don't know if robots were not German at all but a lot of the manual assembly in Germany is done by people with Turkish origin, or pasport. Still Toyota quality is considered clearly worse for cars coming from their factory in Turkey, while "the same people" produce high quality cars in Germany. Don't know if US factories use people with US-origin, what ever that is (I hope nobody sees any racist issues included, none to mee).

Must be partly something about the culture of the factories with long history.

I plan to buy another benz.....my first and only so far is my 97 C280..love it.

in the future I will get either an 85-87 TE or TD wagon, 380SEC, 300CD or if I hit the lottery, I will get a CLS.

I'm a coupe kinda guy and benz only offers but so many coupe models, but I love the wagon...saw one lowered with rims and looked nice.

Actually, in Germany, they use robots made by ABB, a Swedish company. I don't know what they use in the US.

At the US plants, the workers are typically US citizens or people with a valid VISA. I don't think they're passing out H1B work VISAs for the Tuscaloosa plant. I may be wrong, but . . . . . . . . .
