Has you car ever been stuck in a flood?

This is not my problem - yet.

There have been rainstorms in southern England today. and quite a lot of guys will have returned from work today to discover their home & possibly their car is sitting in about 2 - 3 feet of water from a nearby overflowing river.

So how much water is too much? Has anyone here rescued a car where the engine was fully under water? Just wondering...

I killed one car in flood, while driving if that counts.
Modern engines are pretty well sealed. The only critical point (as I experienced) is air intake. In my case it was less than 2' above the ground, right behind front grille. Once I pushed water over the hood, the engine was breathing the water as well.
On parked car if you don't have water marks entering the car interior, don;t think you have anything to worry about. If you do -I would check for water in the air filter and water in oil. If they don't have any signs of water -the engine is ready to turn. To be on safe side you can turn it by hand using socket on the main pulley, or on manual transmission by pushing the car on second, or third gear.
Even if engine flooded, you can pull the plugs, crank it to blow the water off, change the oil and it should be ready to go. I used to have my jet-ski engine flooded several times. On 2-cycle it usually took turning the engine upside-down to get water off the crankcase.
