Sorry some find this thread boring. I think anything that adds to learning about our shared enthusiasm is of interest, but perhaps that's just me.
This isn't the best reference but one where you can see e.g. how the E-class has evolved (if not counting W123 in as it was never designated "E-something", then from W124 to W210, W211 and the W212 still to appear).

If you wanted to see which W-models, I interpret sedan models existed at a specific year, you can have a look at the table at the end of the page. Different body classes change at a different time, car manufacturers naturally want to spread the introduction of new models over time.

As an example, during the production of the W220 S-class, C-class W202 and W203 were built equally as E-class W210 and W211.
