Actually Q6820654 is specifically the bracket. The entire kit is Q6820836. Unfortunately the entire kit comes with the VCM at over 500.00, with the VCM being 500.00 of the price and I already have the VCM itself. I believe the kit itself is not available also (I got frustrated enough I would have taken it.)
But, 5 dealerships now and all have the same answer. We can't get the part. I'd happily wait for it to come from Germany if that is what it took.
I would happily take contact information on a dealership in the UK or Canada that is good to work with.
*warning - ramble below*
This was not the only part that I found this problem with, just the most pressing. From what I am understanding the part is sourced through a local supplier in the U.S. and they either have terminated that agreement or are not producing anymore. The dealer parts people refer to the item as "Comm Blocked" It appears that at this point it is not availabe except for what is is dealer inventory. However they *may* be producing more at an undetermined time in the future, so it is not "discontinued."
Fortunately I've got a really good parts guy that takes this as a challenge, including searching for numbers that supersede or swap for these.
If he can't get them he will also give me a copy of the locate sheets telling me who's got them (and how many). Great guy. Unfortunately he can't make MB cough up this particular bracket and a few other minor things.
From how he has explained things, since MB sources the part locally, built to specs, the possibly are available from other markets, and/or in stock at dealers outside the U.S. Unfortunately, when there is a supply problem with items that are sourced from a local manufacturer, the system doesn't seem to let them try to get it from another region.
We have checked the specific part numbers for each item in the kits I need, along with the numbers for the kits themselves and pretty much run into a wall, especially where it comes to parts for the Voice Control system. I can get all the electronics, it is the little things that are giving problems. Like I said, I can fabricate all the brackets, and even after everything is installed and done it won't matter to anyone else, but I will know it isn't right and it will drive me batty.
I know it is a somewhat frustrating process, but I also know work has been frustrating today, so I think I am feeding off of both. I normally find this kind of jump the hoop thing fun.
I'm off to start calling all those places suggested. Thanks a bunch everyone.
