Sounds like hogwash, and Mythbusters says it doesn't work. I believe them.

I don't care if it improves mileage or not, I would not advise trying it.

From my personal experience, it worked .

And i have tested it on the following cars:
1. 1993 BMW - 520i .
2. 1994 Daewoo .
3. 1993 Caprice.
4. 1981- w123 Benz.
5. 1998 - w202 Benz.
6. other cars i don't recall.

if you are in doubt check out the wiki

That's what I've been hearing for years. Acetone might initially improve mileage in the engine, that had dirty injectors. Being very powerful solvent, it might remove deposits regular injector cleaner might not.
But being expensive stuff -is not cost-effective. This way or another I wouldn't risk it. I have gasoline engines with 100k on them and buying gas at the cheapest stations never gave me dirty injectors. Than CA gasoline has about 7% of alcohol, what is a cleaner as well.
Replaced injector tips on diesel at 230k, but that is different story.
