It was said back "in the DAY of the 190", not" the 190";( though the 190 E 2.3 16V and WVO were dandy little cars indeed); so that would include cars like the 500E, 560SEC, 300D, 560SL, when the engineers ruled, Bruno Sacco was designing the cars, they were sold as price no object and built to the highest quality standard.
That is quite different from the offerings in recent years, where TV and print ads crow about how "affordable" the cars are and how cheap to lease, cars like the R class, the AMG badge gets put on anything, even the little A class and big G class cars, and every possible consumer niche is sought to be filled, and the cars have been a nightmare in build quality.
If there is even a trend back towards what Mercedes was doing back in the mid eighties, it would be all to the good. A lot of the brand's equity has been squandered in recent years. It was like watching a crime in progress but you couldn't call the Police.
Any glimmer of a course change for the better is good
