Evaluating my acquisition.

Ok. So you all know I've been a proud owner of a C124 E320, 1994.

Out of curiosity, I want to compare it to other Mercedes I could've purchased with my budget, and they were:

Some W140s, and C140s, W126s (560SEL/420SEL) and C126s (560SEC), W124 E420s/400Es...and if I got uber-lucky, a 500E (I say that because there's a one owner being privately sold in CA for $11.5k).

So far, I had to do some work on the EGR circuit, replace a combo switch...and thats about it besides normal fluid changes. CEL is still on and keeps coming on, with the same Code 5 associated with the EGR.

Other than that, teh car's been great. And again, I picked it up with 75k on the clock, full maintenance records in the book, less than 2 owners, probably 1 owner, clean carfax, all for $9700.

With the known issues associated with the W124, would I have had more or less problem spots with the other cars I could have purchased? For example...would I have been better off with less issues on a W126....would I have enjoyed it more if I got a C140...

Like the question is, did I do well compared to the other cars I could have bought?

I'm not disappointed with my purchase or anything...I love my car to death. But as I look at C140s or C126s, I think...doh...I could have gotten what I TRULY wanted.

Thumbs up

You got a fine car, one of the best ones out there, in one of the very best colors.
Plus yours in one of the very very best ones, conditionwide, I have seen, and the mileage is super low on it.

Those W124 coupes are really wonderful, practical, and durable (Millions of miles of proven Police and Taxi use in Europe.)

They are beautifully proportioned. Lots of safety features, and very safe, relatively economical and easy to repair.

Don't mod it all up to hell and gone, drive it with care, and you'll have a car to last a loooong time and be proud of.

It was a wise choice. Don't look back at the what-if and might- have- been scenarios. Just enjoy it, it was a good choice you made.

Well as much as I love my W140 with all the extra bit's the last owner added to it...it's been like a pack of rabid wolves at my wallet so I guess that can help answer your question.
