2005 SL500 oil leak

I have a slight oil leak coming from the extension on the left valve cover (where the oil filler cap attatches). I noticed it is a rubber sealant and not a gasket. Anyone ever repaired one of these?? I have never removed the LARGE plastic top cover to the engine. Any thoughts?? Thanks in advance!! FG

i repair these all the time at work. yes its the chambers that are leaking. just remove the valve cover, remove the 3 torx bolts holding it on and carefully pry it off, clean all the old sealant and install new sealant and reinstall. replace the valve cover gasket too

Thanks Streetglower! How do you remove the whole plastic top assembly to get to the valve covers/oil filler neck?? It is very intimidating. Thx

This should be covered under the Factory Warranty, 4 years, 50,000 miles. My 2 cents.
