Any Ideas?

My C230K has me stumped so I am dropping it off at the shop tonight. Two symptoms:
1) When accelerating from say 65-75 the car seems to be "skipping" a little and gives a slight jolt, if you know what I mean. If just cruising along at around 70 it runs fine - only when accelerating.
2) When coming to a hard (but not too hard) stop, the shift from 2nd to 1st is rough. If you come to a gradual stop, there are no noticeable problems.

Routine maintenance is within my capabilities but this isn't something I want to screw around with.

Anyone have any ideas as to what this may be? $$?

Hey, macneil, welcome to the forum.

Generally speaking when you're asking questions pertaining to your model, you're better off posting in your car's native forum (W203).

You also didn't mention mileage. If you're in the 60K plus range it could be a fuel filter, but best to let the shop pull codes and see if that shows anything. Codes get stored even though the CEL may not come on.

Also, if you're at or above 50K miles, it's time for an AT fluid and filter change, which probably will resolve the shifting issue. That gets ignored all the time and it definitely causes some odd symptoms as well as shortening the life of the transmission.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Thanks Greg for the great advise and insight into what may be going on.

She's got 83K miles on her so hopefully it's simply a maintenence think. I am the second owner and unsure how the previous owner treated the car.

I'll follow up once she's fixed.

Seems transmission related. In the 65-75 acceleration, was it in same gear or with a down shift? Have you checked the tranny fluid level yet?

I am praying AT fluid change will fix the issue but it's still at the shop being diagnosed. While accelerating in the 65-75 + range the skipping occurs in the same gear - without any downshift. I haven't checked the fluid only because I don't have a dipstick.
