Two radiator fans?

Hi everyone
As I understand there are two auxilary rad fans and I am wondering if this is some sort of two stage turn on idea. The deal is: one of my fans doesn't come on and the question is should they both come on at the same time. Thank you.

Grateful Newbie

You do not say what car you have.

Visco engine fans come on at 80c to full power.

Electric fans turn on at 100c , if you have 2 electric in the rad they should both come on together

Yeah, year/model would be quite helpful.

I never owned C, but on E from that era there is one motor and the second fan was powered by a belt.
Maybe the belt broke?

if you can twist the bigger fan with your hand easily, than the electric motor should be ok. like kajitek said the belt that runs the smaller fan probably came off or broke.

Sorry guys
I should've been more specific. There is one huge fan powered by the serpentine belt and that one is ok. I'm talking about two fans located in between the chrome grill and the condenser and subsequently radiator. Now that I think of it perhaps these fans have to do with condenser more since inside the engine compartment there is a huge fan taking care of the rad. I'm just lost.

i think everybody understood what you meant. it seems to me like the belt that runs the little fan is off. you need a new belt there, because since the bigger fan is working, than the electric motor is fine. take the auxillary fans apart so you can see what's going on, takes like 20 minutes.

Yes, they should both come on at the same time. If they don't, and everything seems to check out, you may need to replace one.
