CL is a 2-door coupe based on S class chassis while CLS is a 4-door "coupe" based on E class chassis. CL would be the first MB to receive new technologies. It's all personall taste but to me CL is a class higher than the CLS (look at the interior and you will see what I am talking about).

What he said. The CL is a step higher than the CLS.

No. They're both totally different cars and classes. The CLS is based on the W211 E-Class chassis and the CL is based on the W221 S-Class chassis. The only thing they share are the lines and curves of the design.

This has come back to haunt me. The CL has a really nice interior styling. I can now clearly see the difference is the level of class. I wish I could get a CLS, in CL style for the CLS cost.

Life is so unfair!

A colleague of mine was looking to sell his Ferrari 360, and got a call from the MB dealer saying a pristine CLS 55 just came back to their lot (the owner traded up to either the S or the CL, I don't recall). He said if if could keep up with the 360, he'd consider it. He was stunned at how quickly the CLS walked away from him in the Ferrari, both at highway speeds and from about 30mph. Rides like a dream, power for days.

He's now a CLS owner.
