If best means most reliable and trouble free, I would vote for w123 diesels. I had one for 12 years and 225,000 miles. Never touched the engine, only put in one clutch.. It was a Euro 300D non-turbo with 4spd manual. What a tank! Pour diesel in, and get out of my way!!!
If you mean best as in favorite, I would say 300SL gull wings and roadsters. I am partial to any MB coupes. They have classic timeless style, like my w124 300CE.
