Question 350 SD Number?

At a recent MBCA event, I was asked the number of the engine in my 350 SD. I have no idea. I assume the question went to a generic number rather than the specific production number. I would appreciate knowing the answer if there is one.

A 350SD has an "M603.97". The dot 97 is important as there are a couple of other M603's that are known for having a stronger bottom end. Those other models are the M603.96 (used in W124 based 300D/300TD) and the M603.961 (used in the W126 based 300SDL).

Diesels are called "OM", only gasoline models use the "M" designation.

It's a pretty odd question from anyone not trying to specify a part for you, but you'll find your 14-digit engine number toward the top of your block near the injection pump. BTW, welcome to BenzWorld!
