Which is the best benz between these years for diy maintenance???? I have a 300se now and everything is right there and pretty straight forward.... Thinking about getting something a little newer but still want to be able to do the work on it myself.... I just don’t want to new of a benz that everything is so high tech that you have to take it in for the simplest things.... So the newer the better but not something to new....
I think I can safely say with any Mercedes, the newer one you buy, the more complicated it will be to work on yourself. How about a 1995 W124, or W210?
For maintenance, a W210 E320 like MM’s car is hard to beat. It’s powered by an M112 3.2 liter V6 that requires oil changes every 10K miles or so, has 5 year/100K mile plugs, easily accessible air, oil, cabin and fuel filters, no distributor caps, and OBDII diagnostics. For DIY maintenance, it’s a good engine.
Nothing against the M104 inline six, but your M112 has more power, has better fuel economy, & weighs less. On the maintenance side, the M112 doesn't have an ignition rotor/cap, the plugs last longer, and the oil change interval is longer. They really are getting better as time moves forward.
Marcus, you should know because you are a DIY (and I certainly am not so I should shut up on this thread). Thanks to you and good luck to drunkbum!
